Our after-school M.A.D. Clubs (Making a Difference Clubs Meet once a week at public schools sites in Orange Countys low-income neighborhoods. Each club provides academic tutoring, structured sports and Character Education.

Established in 1997, the Orange County Youth Commission serves inner city children and youth by providing after-school clubs on public school campuses and sports programs at neighborhood sport centers. Our volunteers provide excellent role models and assist in academic tutoring and character development. We measure success by a changed life!

"Off the Streets & Into the Ring Tournament"

Northgate Gonzalez Market and The Santa Ana Boxing Club are hosting the 5th Annual Off the Streets & Into the Ring Tournament on Oct 15th at the Northgate Gonzalez Market at the intersection of 4th and French Streets in Santa Ana. This event begins at 1 p.m. and draws more than 50 clubs and approximately 1,000 spectators from all around Southern California to participate and watch the boxing tournament. The tournament will consist of 20 three-round bouts.The boxing tournament is currently taking event sponsorships for championship belt sponsorships, booth sponsors and overall event sponsorship. See attached Sponsorship levels for cost and benefit packages. All sponsorship money and information is due by October 1, 2011.On the corner of Fourth and Garfield stands the Santa Ana Boxing Club. The Santa Ana Boxing Club is a project of the Orange County Youth Commission and is designed to offer youth a place to train, gain boxing skills and find mentors for their lives instead of joining gangs in this low-income neighborhood. Additionally, the Boxing Club has proven itself time and time again to excel in its athletics. MISSION STATEMENTThe Orange County Youth Commission will bring hope and purpose to the children and youth in the inner city by developing a partnership among the business/private sector and faith community to provide wholesome activities that educate, train, inspire and transform lives.

About OCYCOrange County Youth Commission was launched in 1997 by Rosemarie Avila and a group of concerned community members who recognized the needs of children in high-poverty areas of Orange County and wanted to make a difference in their lives. A volunteer Board of Directors was formed and they wrote our present mission statement. M.A.D. CLUBS

MAKE A DIFFERENCE CLUBS

M.A.D. Clubs meet once a week at public school sites in Orange Countys low-income neighborhoods. Most of these schools are Elementary Schools although we have a few in Jr. High Schools. These Clubs are run by our faithful volunteers that have been trained in giving Character Education lessons that are based on Historical Characters in the Bible.

Each M.A.D. Club provides academic tutoring, structured sports, and character education. Many of these youth do not understand the reasons you need to be honest, trustworthy or have respect for others. In our M.A.D. Clubs we help them understand these principles that have an impact on them the rest of their lives.

Life Lesson

LIFE LESSON The youth learn discipline, team work, determination and respect all while getting in shape and feeling good about their accomplishments. We help youth from 8 years old to 21 years old which are critical years that they need to stay out of trouble so that they can lead successful adult lives. All our services are Free to the Youth. We dont charge to make a difference in a childs life. THERE ARE MANY THINGS WE DO LIKE PAINT OVER GANG GRAFATTI, FEED THE HOMELESS, AND FOOD DRIVES FOR DISASTER VICTIMS.

Santa Ana Boxing Club HISTORY LESSON Back in the 70s, John Ramirez Sr. opened the gym. It was considered a safe haven for the young people in this low-income neighborhood. John Ramirez, Sr. had a way with the youth and when they entered the gym it was neutral ground. For years the City of Santa Ana has supported the gym with Community Development Block Grants.

MONDAY-FRIDAY - 3:00PM TO 4:00PM

(WIA TUTORING PROGRAM 16-21 YRS.)

MONDAY-FRIDAY 4:00PM TO 7:30PM

(BOXING PROGRAM)

COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS FOR YOUTHS ARE AVAILABLE.

All services at Santa Ana Boxing Club are free.

We dont charge to make a difference in a childs life.

FIELD TRIPS
FIELD TRIPSThe youth from the inner-city love to go on FIELD TRIPS! We had one little boy jumping up and down when he heard that his M.A.D. Club leader was on the phone with his Mom! "We get to go some place! We get to go some place!" He was squealing Soccer Games, Pool Parties, or Trips to the Park - it doesnt matter where we take them they love to go! To help continue allowing these kids to "Go Places" please click on the donate button.

CAMPS

CAMPS We have several camps that we take the youth to during the summer.

Devil Pups

Every summer we partner with the Santa Ana Police and take a group of youth to Camp Pendleton and the youth go through Boot Camp! They learn discipline and bring home tenacity to win at whatever they start.

Verdugo Pines

We take youth to Jr. Camp and Teen Camp. This camp takes them away from their homes for a week and helps them reconnect with God and nature. We have some kids that don't want to come home! Every year we take more and more kids. The word is growing that this is the camp to go to!

Convict Lake

A group of men from a local church have invested in a group of boys from our Santa Ana Boxing Club and take them away for a weekend of fishing and hiking. The boys get to enjoy a side of life that they have never known before where they can open up and share with other youths what their lives are all about.

Day Camp

For two weeks out of the summer we hold day camp for the young children. These youth are too young to stay away from their parents for a week - so we have camp activities at a local park or a neighborhood school. It is fun for them and they get to put on plays and make crafts while learning valuable lessons.
